School nursing
School nurses are here to support children and young people aged 5-19 to have a healthy lifestyle.
National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP)
Each year, children in Reception and Year 6 have their height and weight checked at school. This is called the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP). The checks are done by registered school nurses or trained health and care staff.
The measurements help us understand how children are growing. Havering Council uses this information to plan health and leisure services that support healthy growth in children.
Parents / carers will get a letter with their results and details of support available to help families make healthy lifestyle choices.
During the check, Reception children are also offered routine hearing and vision screening. If needed, they can be referred to a specialist service.
School-based vaccinations
Vaccines are the best way to protect against some serious illnesses and help keep everyone healthy. They help your body fight diseases if you come into contact with them.
Vaccination UK gives school aged immunisations following the NHS schedule. Contact your school nurse if you have any questions.
Sexual health
Your School Nurse will be able to give you support around sexual health and signpost you to services in Havering, such as the C-Card scheme.
Your School Nurse will also be able to help you understand what a healthy relationship looks like.
The C-Card is for young people to access FREE condoms at locations across London. Once registered you can collect condoms or get advice from any Outlet displaying the Come Correct logo. Find out more information about the C-Card scheme.
