Keeping your home warm

Having a cold home can affect your health. It is recommended that you turn your heating on to keep the rooms you use the most at least 18°C. Use our top tips to keep your home warm this winter.

Get support from the Havering Energy Doctors

Age UK Redbridge, Barking & Havering run a free service for Havering residents aged 18+ to make their homes more energy efficient.

You can get a free home visit from an Energy Expert to assess your home's energy efficiency and give you advice on how to use energy more effectively.

Block draughts

There may be small gaps underneath your doors or between your windows letting your heating out or letting cold air in.

You can buy or make a draught excluder and close your curtains in the evening to help block draughts.

Don’t fit any new draught proofing in a room that doesn’t have enough ventilation or where there’s already a condensation problem.

If you’re getting a professional to fit insulation, draught proofing or new windows or doors, ask them what they’re including to maintain good ventilation. This is because insulation can cause mould growth.

Make sure you get the benefits you're entitled to
