Mental health support for new parents

If you’re feeling low, tearful or unmotivated since becoming pregnant or having a baby, there is lots of support in Havering to look after your mental health.

After you have a baby, you are likely to experience ‘Baby Blues’. This is when hormonal changes in your body may cause you to feel tearful, irritable and low in mood. This may last a few days or a couple of weeks and should go away by itself.

If this continues for weeks or months, you may have postnatal depression, which is more serious.

If you feel like this, speak to a professional about your feelings and they will be able to support you and your family.

Fathers can get postnatal depression too and there is local support for dads too in Havering.
