Condoms

Someone holding 4 packets of condoms fanned out in their hands

Condoms are the only type of contraception that can prevent both pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STIs).

If used correctly, condoms are up to 98% effective. Condoms are a ‘barrier’ method of contraception, as they physically prevent sperm from reaching the uterus, so you cannot get pregnant.

There are two types of condoms:

  • External Condoms (often called male condoms), worn on the penis
  • Internal Condoms (often called female condoms), worn inside the vagina.

What size do I need?

For condoms to be effective, it's important you use the right size.
