Support to live independently
From support maintaining your garden, to help doing odd jobs around the house, there is lots of support in Havering to support you to live independently at home for as long as possible.
Help doing housework & cleaning
If you are looking for a small amount of cleaning to be done, the British Red Cross can support you.
For regular full house cleans, you may be able to get support paying for a cleaner.
Assistive technology & telecare products
Telecare is equipment and services that supports safety and independence in the home.
The equipment can sense risks such as smoke, floods and gas.
It can also can remind you to take pills and even call for help if you fall.
A help centre can be contacted automatically if any of these problems occur in your home.
Support with hoarding
There are currently no free services that support with hoarding. However, there are services you can pay for who can support.
Grant a Smile is a charity that can help people struggling with hoarding and chronic clutter in a gentle, trauma-informed way.
Help collecting prescriptions
You can ask a friend, neighbour or family member to collect your prescriptions, or you may be able to sign up for prescription deliveries straight to your home using a service like Pharmacy 2 U.
The British Red Cross can also support with collecting your prescriptions for you.
Help with gardening
Age UK RBH have a low-cost gardening service to help residents in Havering, Barking & Redbridge aged 50+ to look after their gardens.
Help with food
Find support buying or making food, find out about meals on wheels, delivery and other support services.
Speak to a Local Area Coordinator
Local Area Coordinators support residents in some areas across the borough to live well in their community.
They focus on your interests and what you want to achieve to help you build your vision for a good life.
You can call your Local Area Coordinator for your area, or make a referral online.
If you need support to live at home independently
If you need some help or you are not sure what kind of help you need, you can call Havering Adult Social Care and have a chat. They will do their best to guide you towards the right kind of support for you.
You can call Havering Adult Social Care on behalf of a friend or relative but they will need to speak to the person concerned at some point too.
You can complete our Adult Social Care enquiry form and they can call you back or respond by email.
You can call Havering Adult Social Care on 01708 432000 during the office hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
If it’s an emergency and outside usual office hours you can call 01708 433999.
Day centres
You can join a Day Centre to take part in accessible, safe activities if you have a long-term condition or disability.
In Havering, we have the following Day Centres:
- Avelon Road Centre
- Tapestry HuBs at Hopwa House, Paines Brook Court (Rainham) and Broadway.
