Staying safe out & about
Havering is a great place to live, work, and visit. Whether you're heading to the shops, meeting friends, or just enjoying a walk, here are some simple ways to stay safe and feel confident while you're out and about.
Top tips for staying safe out & about
1. Be aware of your surroundings
- Stay alert, especially in busy areas or when using your phone.
- Keep your bag zipped and close to your body.
- If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and move to a safer place.
- Call Strut Safe's UK-wide phone line (0333 335 0026) if you're walking home alone to have a friendly voice to keep you company until you're home.

- If you can, walk with a friend or in well-lit areas, especially at night.
- Let someone know where you're going and when you expect to be back. Think about using apps, like Life360, that notify your loved ones where you are and when you get home.
- Use licensed taxis or trusted transport apps if you're travelling late.
