Health checks and screenings are the best way to catch any health problems you may have early so you can stop them getting worse.

 

Finding out if you are at risk of getting a health condition can help you: 

  • Lower you chances of getting ill 
  • Spot diseases and get treatment early  
  • Improve your chance of successful treatment 

NHS Health Check

The NHS Health Check is a check-up every 5 years for adults in England aged 40 to 74.

 

It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia.

Health checks for people with learning disabilities

If you are over 14 and have a learning disability, you should get a health check from your GP every year.

Blood pressure checks

The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is by having a blood pressure check.

 

High blood pressure can cause health problems, like a stroke, if left untreated.
